We’re Opening the Basement

There has been an idea sitting around for a while.

Not a product. Not a business plan. Just an idea.

What if there was a place for people who build things?

Not another store full of things to buy. Not another Instagram page shouting about the newest product. Something that felt a little more like walking into someone’s workshop and finding a shelf full of things that made you want to build something yourself.

That’s what we’re trying to make with The Basement Supply Co.

We’re starting with 3D printing because it’s what we have downstairs. It’s a wonderfully strange way of making things: an idea becomes a model, the model becomes a machine instruction, and a few hours later there’s an object sitting on the table that didn’t exist that morning.

But the printer isn’t really the point.

The point is the people sitting around it.

The student building something after class. The founder working out of a bedroom. The engineer who has three unfinished projects on their desk. The kid taking apart things just to see how they work. The person who keeps saying, “I have an idea.”

Those are our people.

We don’t know exactly what The Basement Supply Co. will become yet. And honestly, we’d rather not pretend that we do.

We’re going to experiment.

We’ll make things. We’ll get things wrong. We’ll release products. We’ll kill products. We’ll ask you what we should make next. We’ll document the process and, hopefully, build a little community around it along the way.

So this is Log 001.

The shelves are mostly empty.

The printer is warming up.

There are probably too many ideas written on the whiteboard.

We’re opening the basement.

Come downstairs.
